What second wave? What’s really happened is a damn sight more testing!
Claim: Infections are running higher now than when Britain went into lockdown in March
Reality: There is an increase in cases — but only because we are testing more
It’s true that the current number of recorded infections – 19,000 on Wednesday alone – is at its highest ever.
But that’s principally because we are now carrying out more than 250,000 tests a day – compared to less than 6,000 a day in mid-March.
What keeps this madness going is the fear (unfounded for 95%+ of us) that we’ll die if we catch the virus. Until that panic-based fear is removed, there is no end to this.
Let’s reserve judgement till late December when the scale of the epidemic is clearer.
What counts is the rate of positivity: in Britain the rate of positivity has climbed from 15.78 per million people on August 19 to 241.113 on October 19; obviously the increased frequency of positive tests is not a result of more extensive testing. What also counts is the 7 day rolling average of daily deaths from the infection. During the same time period the number of deaths went from .115 per million people to approximately 1.73 per million.
What keeps this madness is the refusal, inability, and incompetence of so many, particularly governments, to deal with this pandemic; to collaborate on developing vaccines and new therapies, and to institute rigorous test, trace and isolate programs.
You can bark at the moon all you want about “panic” and “fear” and “social control” etc. but the bodies will continue to pile up.
The fear is unfounded for “95%” of us? Really? And are you sure you’re not the “5% of them” who will be seriously sickened? That’s not how a social-ism deals with a pandemic. We protect all. Herd immunity without a vaccine is pure baloney. Protect all.
I guess the question of the actuality of the second wave, and the fact that it is NOT a result of increased testing, has been answered. Right?
