One Response to WHY THE CATEGORY, ‘MODE OF PRODUCTION’, DOES APPLY TO THE USSR.

I feel that you make an important point in designating the USSR as a distinct mode of production. It is always extremely irritating to hear the mainstream media ( and not a small number of so-called progressives) refer to the Soviet Union as a former communist state. What is less forgivable is the lack of interest shown by the supposed “marxist” left in actually trying to understand its actual functioning, contradictions, and ultimate demise. As you point out there are concrete economic reasons for its problematic existence and it is of vital importance to understand these so as not to repeat them in the future.Much too much of the explanations put forward are essentially subjective centering on the evil nature of Stalin and the bureaucracy(admittedly not untrue) but not really looking deeper.I am not surprised that your presentation was rebuffed but in the end that is just a sad reflection on the ideological weakness of those present.
